With the hype of Mari Kondo’s new Netflix show, Tidying Up With Mari Kondo, our society has been thrown into decluttering mode. This newfound resolve towards making our lives simpler and the products in our homes more fulfilling is a perfect compliment to spring. When the weather warms, it feels so good to freshen up and clean all throughout our homes. Here are some must-dos for spring cleaning this year.

Wash the Windows

You might be one of the people who clean their windows every spring, but if you are not, this is your year. First wash the sashes and moldings with warm soapy water and a rag. Scrub hard to reach crevices with a toothbrush. For stubborn window tracks, mix together baking soda and vinegar to create a bubbly reaction to power away caked in dirt. Last, wipe down the glass on the inside and out. This is probably a whole day project, but in the end your home will look brighter and you will feel happier!

Wipe the Cupboard and Closets

If your house is undergoing the Kon Mari Method, you will likely find cobwebs in the closets and unknown spills in your kitchen cupboards. Do not pass up the opportunity to clean these forgotten spaces thoroughly while they are empty! It would be a shame to replace your items that spark joy into a space that does not.

Donate or Toss Unwanted Items

As your spring cleaning and Kon Mari progresses, gather a pile of unwanted items to sort into two piles: donating and tossing. Anything that has life left you can send off to the thrift store, but if your pile of trashed items is too big to bear, consider safe disposal methods. Tom Kraemer Inc. rents dumpsters but we also have public disposal and recycling drop offs.
